NHS Choices selected Peacock Carter for MediaWiki consultancy as part of a cross government experiment, to deliver a pilot wiki based on Google Maps integrated with the MediaWiki platform to allow members of the public to add and edit events that were easily editable by others.
The project was part of a DotGovLabs experimental project to open content on government websites to the public, and we also delivered projects for Directgov and BusinessLink.gov.uk.
The brief: Google Maps integration with MediaWiki
NHS Choices required a wiki that used Google Maps to display and allow the editing of NHS-based events such as fundraising days for particular illnesses.
The solution: custom Google Maps integration
Our solution was to create a customised feature to integrate Google Maps with MediaWiki, alongside allowing visitors to add and edit events with a series of pre-defined headings.
The result
The resulting wiki presented a clean, well-defined design based upon NHS corporate identity guidelines, with our custom development integrating seamlessly between MediaWiki and Google Maps.
As the wiki was part of an experiment which has now ended, the website is no longer live and viewable on the Internet.
