If you noticed Newcastle becoming decidedly more web-designery this week, you’d have been right: DIBI, the Design It Build It conference, arrived once again.

DIBI is a two-track conference for both web designers and web developers, and brings in speakers and attendees from around the UK and the wider world, too. With a conference so related to what we do on our doorstep, it seemed a shame not to go!

DIBI Conference, 2013, Newcastle upon Tyne

Hosted at the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, we were treated to a day of inspiration and innovation from speakers such as Dan Rubin and Aral Balkan: well known names to many web designers around the world! Talks ranged from responsive web design techniques (for developing mobile-friendly websites) to a short talk about the importance of a good night’s sleep and the effects of sleep deprivation from Dr Kirstie Anderson of Sleep Station.

Back To The Future: Lego winnings from DIBI conf!

A particular highlight* for me was the Lego build-off competition at the party nights: all those years of practice “collecting” (i.e., playing with) Lego won me a Lego Back To The Future Delorean kit!

Finally, thanks to all at Epic Times for organising the event: a lot of energy obviously went in to the event and it showed.

* Being a colossal Lego nerd, this is what I’ll remember most.
